I would like to take a moment and apologize to all the racers who participated in todays race and to Gold Medal Racing for the problems we had in timing today. We had a failure with the finish line timing point. All indications were that it was working properly. It beeped when the athletes crossed the finish line, the computer indicated it was taking reads and the GPS was synchronized and when we checked the time of day, it appeared normal. However when we tried to upload the times to the computer, they just did not make any sense and the computer would not accept them. Fortunately our back up worked and we were able to recover using that information. Unfortunately, there is not a way to quickly load the backup times into the our timing software, so it took a couple hours to enter that information. We are continuing to investigate what happened and are looking at ways to improve our ability to recover from a major failure like todays.
